Healthcare software is a hotspot for the IT industry. Microsoft's plan to acquire Sentillion underscores this fact.
Microsoft has announced its intention to acquire Sentillion, a developer of software for the healthcare industry.
The plan appears to be welcomed by Sentillion: "We're excited to build on the powerful foundation we have built over the past decade in product development, sales and marketing, customer relationships, and execution excellence," said CEO Robert Seliger.
Microsoft's intention is to allow Sentillion to operate more or less independently - at least in the short term - while its products and technology are rolled into Microsoft's Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS).
Amalga UIS is designed to integrate the clinical, administrative and financial information used by healthcare applications. It is used at more than 115 US hospitals.
Similarly, Sentillion integrates clinical, business and personal productivity applications used in healthcare. Sentillion software is used at more than 1000 hospitals.
The transaction is expected to close in early 2010. Terms were not disclosed.
