Secure electronic transaction solutions provider, Keycorp Limited (ASX:KYC), has won a contract with the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) as the technology provider for the national migration to Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV) smartcards in Saudi Arabia.
SAMA has awarded Keycorp a contract for the development and supply of technology for migrating the Saudi Payment Network (SPAN) Debit Card Scheme to EMV-compliant payment cards. SPAN is the national Debit Card Scheme of Saudi Arabia. There are currently over six million SPAN Debit cards on issue in the rapidly growing Saudi Arabian market that will require migration to the new EMV smartcard platform.
After several years of detailed evaluation, SAMA has now selected Keycorp to develop the EMV-compliant domestic debit application and to supply MULTOS technology, which will also support Visa and MasterCard's international EMV debit applications to the issuing banks in the Kingdom.
Keycorp CEO, Bruce Thompson, said the selection of Keycorp for the SPAN Debit Card migration to EMV showed the high regard in which the company's EMV technology capability was held.
"SAMA is an extremely judicious organisation in its choice of business partners," Thompson said. "Keycorp is honoured that they have chosen us to assist the Saudi banks in their migration to the new EMV standard."
