Wireless broadband carrier, Unwired (ASX:UNW), has teamed up with secure email vendor, Cleartext Pty Ltd, to market an Australian developed anti-malware system to Unwired customers.
Cleartext and Unwired are flogging discounted versions of the newly released Online Armor to Unwired customers. Online Armor is designed to protect computers from spyware, trojan horses and other malware.
Unwired CEO, David Spence said, “Unwired already offers a high level of internet security and with this agreement we hope to encourage customers to be even more aware of the dangers of online threats, including Spyware. We are pleased to be working with the IIA and Cleartext on this initiative.”
Cleartext managing director, David Banes said, “Spyware has evolved from a nuisance to an out-right threat to the secure use of high-speed Internet connections. As broadband customers deserve the right to use the Internet without the worries of identity theft or fraud by malicious programs, Online Armor can provide a much higher level of confidence. Due to the behavioural-based technology, new and unknown threats are also protected against, without waiting for signature updates.”
The IIA believes that over seven out of 10 computers connected to the Internet in Australia have some form of spyware installed.
Peter Coroneos, chief executive of the IIA said, "We are concerned that many internet users do not know they have spyware on their computers. Indeed, one of the characteristics of spyware is the fact that it is installed without your knowledge or consent. It therefore violates your privacy and can be used to steal your personal information. Without the proper tools, spyware can be very hard to remove and you can often not be certain it has been entirely eliminated. Our campaign is designed to raise awareness, educate users about the problem and direct them to solutions that will protect them."
