iTWire UPDATE - it's FREE!

Motorola Solutions' innovation centre was officially opened today by Gordon Rich-Phillips, Victoria's Minister for Technology.

The centre acts as a showcase and laboratory for the company's customers to explore the use of the company's new and forthcoming technologies, especially in relation to the public safety (police, fire brigade, etc), retail, and mining and energy sectors.

"Motorola Solutions is a great success story for Victoria," said Mr Rich-Phillips. "We're pleased to have a company like Motorola in Victoria."

The Victorian Government "sees innovation as incredibly important" as it provides a way to drive productivity growth in the state, but this requires the harnessing of ICT innovation in other parts of the economy, which is the aim of the centre.

Managing director Gary Starr said Motorola has "deep and rich domain knowledge" of multiple segments, allowing it to work with customers and partners to develop new solutions.

Motorola has been involved with public safety since it started producing police radios some 80 years ago.

The centre includes a mockup of the interior of a police vehicle, showing the audio, video and data systems that are available today.
