Global GPS and positioning technology vendor, Trimble, is to acquire construction industry software provider, WinEstimator, which will be integrated into Trimble’s engineering and construction solutions provider and wholly owned subsidiary, Meridian Systems.

In an announcement today, the US-based, NASDAQ-listed company (NASDAQ: TRMB) said it had entered into a definitive agreement to buy WinEstimator, with the deal expected to close in the third quarter of this year, subject to customary closing conditions.

Meridian General Manager, Geene Alhady, said the acquisition was expected to extend Meridian’s capabilities for general contractor and owner customers that wanted to better develop, manage and leverage their construction cost information to support their core business, with WinEst solutions supporting the integration of cost data into other applications and enabling the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) business practices.

"The acquisition will allow Meridian to provide a broader range of solutions to general contractors and building owners executing projects around the globe. Industry trends including BIM and IPD are driving more innovation in construction management software solutions, and now we are better positioned to support our customers and markets."

WinEst CEO, Steve Watt, said that by joining with Meridian, the company could “improve solution interoperability between BIM data, estimating and project management solutions for all key stakeholders - owners, general contractors, specialty trades.”
