New Adelaide office a part of Huawei's Australian expansion

IT Industry - Development

A new Huawei office in Adelaide is set to create 50 new jobs as the company doubles its Australian workforce.

Huawei is set to open a new office in Adelaide in support of its contract to upgrade Vodafone's network of base stations, and to increase its presence in South Australia more generally.

The new office, along with the company's other activities in the state, will increase Huawei's South Australian headcount by 50. The split between technical and commercial positions was not disclosed.

"South Australia will play an increasingly important role in Huawei's local business, particularly as we work with Vodafone in deploying mobile network upgrades across the state," said a Huawei spokesperson. "Opening a new office in Adelaide will not only give us an established base for the Vodafone rollout, but will also allow Huawei to engage with new business opportunities in the State."

Huawei expects to increase its Australian workforce from 300 to 600 during 2011, and the headcount already exceeds 400.

The company recently announced the formation of an Australian board of directors.
