NBN Co OSS contract to create 20 jobs at SPATIALinfo

IT Industry - Development

Victorian company SPATIALInfo, which has secured a role in the NBN Co OSS contract awarded to IBM last week, will hire an additional 20 staff.

News of the planned hirings was announced not by SPATIALInfo but by the Victorian Government, ever keen to make mileage out of employment growth.

The minister for technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips, said: "SPATIALinfo will create 20 new ICT sector jobs in Victoria over the next three years'¦This is an excellent result for an innovative Victorian company, which has won the licence deal with NBN Co to provide software, training and product support for the first three years of the rollout of the national network."

However SPATIALinfo was not awarded the contract directly by NBN Co. IBM is the sole direct contractor and as David Murray, general manager of IBM's NBN business, told iTWire last week, IBM has engaged a number of subcontractors to fulfil different aspects of the OSS/BSS rollout. One of these is Accenture which will be using the SPATIALInfo technology.

According to a comment poste by a reader of that story " The network planning, construction and inventory management technology to be deployed at NBN comes from SPATIALinfo."

According to Rich-Phillips, "SPATIALinfo will provide NBN Co with its spatialSUITE fibre network modelling products, to be used for planning, design, construction and maintenance operations'¦SPATIALinfo's products have continually evolved in Victoria and have been widely deployed in North America, and at Optus and, formerly, Telstra."

SPATIALinfo CEO Tony Cotter said: "We competed head to head with software products from all over the globe and were ultimately successful because of our modern, open architecture and strong local support presence - the latter of significant importance due to NBN Co's focus on Victoria for its engineering and construction activities."
