The New South Wales Government has put $6 million up for grabs as part of its digital economy program.

The New South Wales Government's $6 million Collaborative Solutions program is initially aimed at the development of innovative mobile and wireless solutions for the tourism and retail sectors.

$2 million per year will be available for the next three years. The grants will normally be limited to 35% of total project costs, with an upper limit of $250,000. Applications for larger amounts will be considered on a competitive basis.

The Government is currently seeking applications from consortiums involving mobile application developers, technology and service providers, device manufacturers, research organisations, and user organisations. A networking event will be held on February 11 to put potential collaborators in touch with each other.

Applications for this round will be accepted until March 25. Subsequent funding rounds will address other aspects of IT, perhaps including cloud computing and ubiquitous high-speed broadband.

So who is going to be the first to say "they should be spending the money on flood relief and reconstruction"?
