The venture capital firms backing the challenge are Emerald Technology Ventures, Foundation Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byer, and RockPort Capital.

Anyone aged 18 and over, and any legally-formed entity may enter the challenge.

Five entrants will receive a $US100,000 award, and the $US200 million will be invested in promising startups and ideas. GE may also provide assistance to selected entrants to validate their business strategy, technical and research assistance to speed development, and explore opportunities for GE and its partners to help reach markets.
