ACS moots change to membership grades

IT Industry - Development

The Australian Computer Society has proposed changes to its membership grades along with revisions to its certification program.

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the professional society for ICT in Australia. As part of a plan to provide a professional development pathway, the Society is proposing changes to its membership grades.

The current grades are Student, Affiliate, Provisional Associate, Associate, Provisional Member, Member, Senior Member, Companion, and Fellow.

If approved, the proposal will collapse the structure to Associate, Member, Senior Member and Fellow.

Existing members (depending on exactly when they reached their current grade) will be 'grandfathered' into the new structure as follows:

Companions, Provisional Associates, and Affiliates will become Associates;

Provisional Members will become Members;

Associates will become Members; and

Longstanding (or certified) Members will become Senior Members.
