NBN Co has confirmed that its National Operations and Test Facility will be located in Melbourne.
NBN Co's National Operations and Test Facility will be located in Melbourne, occupying approximately 4000 square metres of the Innovation Building in the Digital Harbour section of Melbourne's Docklands.
NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley said up to 425 people will be employed at the facility when it is fully operational.
"This facility will be the centrepiece of our network and the key interface with our customers, the retail service providers, who will be using our network to provide high-speed services to their business and residential customers across Australia," he said.
Victorian Premier John Brumby said "NBN Co's choice to base the Network Services Operations Centre in Melbourne is a clear affirmation of Victoria's expertise in the telecommunications and technology sectors."
According to state government officials, Victoria is home to Australia's highest proportion of skilled ICT workers in Australia - employing around 87,000 people including 22,000 in the telecommunications sub-sector.
"Basing the key technological facilities of the new NBN entity in Melbourne will capitalise on Victoria's major telecommunications strengths for the benefit of the whole country," added Brumby.
