NBN operations centre opening in Melbourne

Is the NBN about to go live? There are reports that at least one home in Tasmania has a live connection, and NBN Co's network operations centre is expected to be launched in Melbourne today.


Reports are circulating that today will see the launch of the NBN Operations and Test Facility in Melbourne.

Victorian Premier John Brumby and Federal Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Stephen Conroy are expected to be involved in the launch.

iTWire reported in February that NBN Co's network operations centre and integration lab would both be based in Melbourne.

We also reported overnight on claims that the first home has been connected to the NBN in Tasmania.

According to the Herald Sun, the establishment of NBN's Melbourne facilities will create around 700 jobs.
