The Victorian eHealth Network has been launched with a $A80,000 grant from the state government.
The object of the Victorian eHealth Network is to assist the local industry to collaborate and exchange information in order to become leaders in the provision of innovative eHealth solutions.
The idea of the network was floated as far back as mid 2008. A working party, chaired by Liz Sonenberg of The University of Melbourne, first met on July 21, 2008.
Organisations represented at that meeting - The University of Melbourne, University of Ballarat, Australian Centre for Health Innovation, IBM Australia, Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle), iCare Solutions, project.net, Llewelyn Grain Informatics and Rex Ideas - are still involved in the network.
"Victoria boasts around 70 eHealth companies, who employ hundreds of Victorians, and this area has potential to grow substantially over the next ten years, particularly with opportunities that will arrive with the roll out of the National Broadband Network,” said Jaala Pulford, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Trade, representing the ICT Minister John Lenders.
"By supporting this sector the Victorian Government is investing into building a strong and sustainable economy through boosting business networks and skills in emerging sectors," she added.
