Apple reseeds Mac OS X 10.6.3 to developers

IT Industry - Development

Apple seeded a fresh build of Mac OS X 10 10.6.3 to developers at the end of last week. Could a public release be close?

It's been three months since Mac OS X 10.6.2 was released, and it looks as if 10.6.3 might not be far away.

On Friday (US time), Apple released build 10D458 of Mac OS X 10.6.3 to the developer community. As the release notes stated there were no known issues in this update, there is speculation that the public release may not be far away.

"Known issues: none" does not mean that Apple has fixed all the known bugs in Mac OS X 10.6, only that the changes being made in 10.6.3 appear to be working properly.

Developers have been asked to concentrate their testing on AirPort, iCal, QuickTime, printing, and graphics drivers.

Changes in the latest build improve compatibility fixes for OpenGL applications; reliability, compatibility and security fixes for QuickTime X; reliability and compatibility improvements for third-party printers; a fix for the Rosetta problem involving file names containing # or &; and a fix for the problem that could prevent files being copied to Windows shares.

There is speculation that 10.6.3 will be released this month.
