Google Apps Script opened to wider audience

Google has widened the availability of Google Apps Script to users of the standard edition.Originally limited to the premier and education editions of Google Apps, Google Apps Script has now been extended to the standard edition.
As on other platforms, scripting in Google Apps addresses several requirements, including the automation of repetitive tasks and linking two or more applications.
An example of the latter is sending an email to each of the addresses listed in a spreadsheet, possibly merging other data from the same row into the body of the message.
Other uses of Google Apps Script include creating custom spreadsheet functions or adding custom buttons or menus to run scripts.
