AIMIA awards head for Melbourne

IT Industry - Development

The winners of the 2010 AIMIA awards have been decided, but they won't be revealed until a ceremony to be held in Melbourne on March 5.

The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association award program is now in its 16th year, and features for the first time the categories of Best Sport, Best Online Video and People's Choice.

Voting for People's Choice isn't open to the masses, just AIMIA members.

Although judging has been completed, the finalists won't be announced until mid-January.

Then there's another wait until March 5 for the awards ceremony, which will take place at Peninsula on Central Pier, just across the road from Melbourne's Docklands Stadium.

Category sponsors include bbc.com, BigPond, City of Melbourne, KPMG, Melbourne IT, Microsoft, NSW Department of State and Regional Development, Spectrum PR, and Viocorp.

The awards are supported by Multimedia Victoria and CommSec.

"The AIMIA Awards do a terrific job of showcasing the innovation, excellence and technical diversity evident across Victoria's interactive media sector and of recognising the achievements and contributions of our innovative companies," said John Lenders, Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology. Multimedia Victoria comes under Lenders' portfolio.

"We're delighted to be supporting the AIMIA Awards, said Matt Comyn, managing director, CommSec. "Supporting the awards which recognise digital excellence in Australia is a perfect fit for our organisation."
