Google Chrome gussied up with artist themes

IT Industry - Development

Are you one of the people who can't stand a vanilla-themed browser? Google Chrome now offers a shipload of themes, including many from noted designers and artists.

The Google Chrome browser is growing in popularity - it exceeded a 3% web share for the first time in Net Applications' September 2009 Market Share report.

Themes were officially supported beginning with the stable release that arrived in mid September, and at the time Google promised a wider selection of themes was on their way.

That promise has been met with the launch of 100 artist themes. "We invited leading artists, architects, musicians, illustrators, filmmakers and fashion and interior designers from around the globe to create artwork for an unusual canvas: the modern web browser," Google officials stated.

The collection includes designs from Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood, Donna Karan, and Jeff Koons.

Australians are among the contributors. "We're honoured to have had the opportunity to work on this project with two of Australia's most celebrated designers - Akira Isogawa and Carla Zampatti," said Jason Chuck, head of marketing for Google Australia and New Zealand.

"We'd like to thank Akira and Carla for lending their vision, imagination and hard work to this collaboration, and we think you'll enjoy the beautiful Chrome themes they developed for us," he added.

You can find and apply the artist themes within the Google Chrome web site.
