iPhoto 8.1 update delivers new print options

IT Industry - Development

An update to Apple's iPhoto photo management software provides additional commercial printing options.
Apple has long sung the praises of its printing services for iPhoto users, with a range that covers hard and soft cover photo books, calendars, greeting cards and postcards as well as conventional prints in sizes from wallet to 20x30in.

The hardcover books can now be ordered in an extra-large (13x10in) size as an alternative to the existing 11x8-1/2in.

Three new book themes are provided with travel in mind. Asian Travel uses red, gold, green and dark blue, with a cloth weave effect.

Old World Travel uses tones such as olive, brick and sand. The relatively formal design clashes with the casual arrangement of photos used by all the Travel books.

Tropical Travel features light colours such as blue, green and salmon, with palm leaf patterns and stripes.

All three incorporate maps automatically generated from geolocation information on the selected photos.

The update also extends the range of holiday greeting cards available for ordering.

The new extra-large photo books start at $US49.99 for 20 pages. Australian pricing has yet to be revealed. Greeting cards are $US1.99/$A2.70 each in quantities of up to 24. (Australian prices exclude shipping.)
