Apple updates iTunes 8.2 for iPhone 3.0 (and more)

IT Industry - Development

Eight of the security problems apply to Mac OS X and Windows, and two to Windows only.

One of the ZDI issues (involving JP2 image files)  is credited to Charlie Miller, and appears to be the bug he used to win a MacBook and $5000 in the Pwn2Own 2009 contest at the CanSecWest security conference.

For Windows users, the QuickTime and iTunes updates are available as a single download that also delivers the new version of the MobileMe control panel.

Mobile Me Control Panel 1.4 supports a variety of proxy server types, including HTTP and HTTPS with and without authentication, unauthenticated SOCKS proxies, proxy bypass lists, and proxy auto-configuration (PAC) files.

GarageBand 5.0.2 is a required update for those wishing to purchase artist lessons (eg John Fogerty teaching guitarists to play Proud Mary) from the GarageBand Lesson Store.

It also fixes a problem involving the use of the loop browser to access Jam Packs, plus the usual unspecified list of compatibility, stability and other issues.

The updates can be downloaded and installed via Software Update (Apple Software Update on Windows), or downloaded from Apple Support Downloads.
