Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the government department that provides New Zealand’s authoritative land and seabed information, has selected Objective Corporation (ASX:OCL) software to provide an enterprise-wide electronic document management system (EDMS).
The project involves more than 300 users in six locations across New Zealand. LINZ will use Objective as an integrated document and records management system that will allow physical records and electronic records to be managed within a single application for the first time. The system stores information within a common classification and once fully operational will significantly reduce the search and retrieval time for all information throughout LINZ, according to Objective. Implementation has commenced, and is expected to be complete in late 2005.
Gavin Eiloart, acting manager knowledge management, LINZ said, “This electronic document management system will allow LINZ to be an information agency of the future, continuing our move from paper transactions to a digital exchange of information. We see Objective as a cornerstone of our information architecture. Its sophisticated functionality will allow us to seamlessly share information throughout LINZ. Being able to retrieve the right document first time, every time, will lead to our delivering faster, more effective services to our customers.
“We selected Objective as it was intuitive, simple to use and could effectively handle large, complex volumes of information. Objective will provide a secure platform that acts as a single source of truth, enabling staff to find the right information quickly and easily online.”
LINZ is evaluating expanding its customer-focussed services to include direct services, consistent with its policy of adapting digital technologies to meet customer needs.
“We are exploring security protocols to support our digital customer service strategy, and using Objective to open information to customers,” said Eiloart.
Objective’s software will integrate with Microsoft office and email systems, and provide version control, workflow and central searching on documents.
