Capped plans drive Vodafone growth

Vodafone Australia added 109,000 net customers for the three months ending December 31, 2006 (excluding MVNO customers) and increased its service revenue by 10.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year.

Average revenue per user (ARPU) was up 5.0 percent on Q3 05/06 and total data revenue (including SMS) grew by 36.1 percent over Q3 05/06 results. Vodafone's customer base stood at around 3.58 million at the end of the quarter and the company now has some 450,00 3G devices on its network.

CEO Russell Hewitt, said that sales of the company's $49 'Maxi Cap' had been "outstanding" in the last three months of 2006, underpinning both prepaid and contract customer acquisition and retention. "From February 1, 2007, we'll encourage more customers to connect to Vodafone when we introduce our $29 Jumbo Cap, which will provide up to $130 worth of value," he promised.

Hewitt claimed that Vodafone was "going from strength-to-strength in Australia with every part of our strategic vision falling into place and coming to life...In 07, expect Vodafone to release lots of exciting new products and services that will continue to inspire and delight our customers."
