More from Microsoft Nortel Alliance 'soon'

IT Industry - Deals

Microsoft has responded to suggestions in iTWire that it might have snubbed Nortel, its partner in the recently formed Innovative Communications Alliance  when rival IP telephony vendor, Mitel, announced that it had been chosen by Microsoft to provide equipment for unified communications demonstrations to be set up in Microsoft Technology Centres around the world.

A Microsoft spokeswoman told iTWire, via email, that "Mitel and Nortel are both respected Microsoft partners [Mitel is part of Microsoft's Strategic Alliance partner program] and the Microsoft Technology Centers (MTCs) frequently showcase solutions from competing vendors, so one vendor being in the MTC before another shouldn't raise any alarms.

"Microsoft and Nortel established the Innovative Communications Alliance in June to leverage the strengths of both companies and [it] is focused on development cooperation, patent cross licensing, and a joint-go to market approach for sales and marketing. You'll be hearing more about the status of the ICA activities soon."
