NetComm makes SIP phone For NEC IP PABX

IT Industry - Deals

NetComm (ASX: NTC) has developed and will manufacture a SIP-compatible digital telephone to operate with NEC's Univerge SV7000 IP PABX products.

The development project commenced in 2005 in partnership with NEC's Australian subsidiary, NEC Business Solutions, and, according to NetComm, has delivered a product, the NetComm V95 IP phone, that NetComm claims "has satisfied both NEC and NetComm's rigorous alpha testing standards."

In a statement to the ASX issued on October 23, the company said, rather confusingly, "Beta field testing is currently underway in Australia with production shipments expected to commence in September 2006."

The V95 was built by NetComm's product customisation division and will be used by NEC as a handset for its Univerge SV7000 IP telephony system designed for large scale installations with more than 200 handsets.

NetComm managing director, David Stewart, said: "The NetComm product customisation division was commissioned to build the V95 for NEC to deliver a standardised product on the SIP platform and to capitalise on the powerful features in the Univerge SV7000 IP telephony solution.

"Evaluation samples of the V95 have also been sent to several other countries where NEC operates, to review the phone's compatibility for overseas use. It is yet to be determined which overseas countries will ultimately make use of the V95, but NetComm are extremely optimistic of broad adoption worldwide."
