Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Physical IT infrastructure provider, American Power Conversion (APC), has formed an alliance with a major land developer to develop a $90 million data centre as part of a massive $12.65 billion planned city project in Queensland.
Under the alliance, Springfield Land Corporation
will develop the first Tier III+ Data Centre in Queensland and APC will
provide network-critical physical infrastructure technology.
The $90 million data centre will be designed to host the IT
infrastructure and operation of international companies as well as
businesses of the new planned city of Greater Springfield 25 kms from
Brisbane.
The developers have set a goal for Greater Springfield to reach a population of 850,000 by 2025.
The data centre will be located in the Central Business District (CBD)
of Greater Springfield, which the developers say has twice the landmass
size of Brisbane and Sydney CBD’s.
Named Polaris, the data centre is part of the information and
communication technology (ICT) strategy being implemented by
Springfield Land Corporation and includes a privately funded dark-fibre
communications network recently laid between Brisbane and Greater
Springfield.
Polaris Data Centre plans to deliver over 6600 square metres of
high-availability raised floor space, and to host the mission-critical
IT systems of government departments and utilities as well as local and
international companies.
“We are delighted to be involved in the physical Infrastructure
development of the Polaris data centre – one of the Australia’s largest
data centre facilities,” said David Plumer, APC Vice President, Asia
Pacific.
According to the developers, Polaris Data Centre will be vendor neutral.
The data centre will be designed to be critical to the availability and
management of the city’s key IT infrastructure and services, including
hospitals, banks and government agencies,
Polaris Data Centre will also support Greater Springfield’s ATMs,
supply chain management, email and Internet with the aim of positioning
Greater Springfield as an ICT hub for South East Queensland.
Springfield Land Corporation Chairman, Maha Sinnathamby, said the
Polaris Data Centre will become a significant data hub for Australia’s
and the world’s largest companies.
“Speed, security, scalability and reliability is part of Springfield
Land Corporation’s technology strategy to support business investment
in the region,” Mr Sinnathamby said. “We will continue to partner with
market-leading vendors such as APC in order to deliver on this
strategy.”
In total, over $12.65 billion will be spent on infrastructure,
education, residential communities and business in the city of Greater
Springfield. This includes a Queensland Government commitment to a
dedicated train line and Centenary Highway duplication by 2011.
