Polycom's VoiceStation 500 conference phone is now Skype Certified enabling it to be used via Bluetooth with the Skype softphone on a PC.
The product is designed for small conferencing centres of general office meeting rooms and can be used via the PSTN or with Skype. It uses Polycom's proprietary Acoustic Clarity Technology claimed to deliver "full duplex, natural group conferencing that minimizes background echoes, word clipping and distortion"
Stefan Öberg, vice president and general manager of desktop and hardware at Skype, said that “Skype estimates that nearly 30 percent of its more than 113 million Skype users are using the software for business purposes
The VoiceStation 500 is the second Polycom product for Skype under a relationship
announced earlier this year and follows the Polycom Communicator, a portable, personal USB speakerphone for use with Skype.
Polycom also offers a computer calling kit option for its SoundStation2 and SoundStation2W conference phones that enables these products to work with Skype. The VoiceStation 500 sells fro $700 and$NZ795. In New Zealand.
