Mobile operators get fixed price spectrum renewal in $3b Government windfall

The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.

Nokia cites Canalys research to claim that "the S60 is the clear leader in smartphone software with over 50 percent market share globally." Nokia claims to have shipped more than 70 million S60 enabled devices and says that to ate, 44 devices based on S60 and Symbian OS have been launched.

However Nokia's claims for the widespread adoption of S60 by "some of the foremost mobile phone manufacturers in the market" is rather misleading. The S60 web site (www.s60.com) lists 42 S60 phones, all but seven of which are produced by Nokia: of the rest there are two from Panasonic, three from Samsung and one each from Siemens and Lenovo.
