RIM unassailable in push email but weak in enterprise mobility

Venture Development Corporation sees RIM's BlackBerry as retaining status as the de facto standard for push email for the foreseeable future, but seriously challenged in its bid to enter the wider enterprise mobility market.VDC identifies Nokia/Intellisync as representing the most immediate threat to BlackBerry's push email dominance with the Window model for mobile e-mail, "probably 12-24 months away from being a serious challenger."
However it suggests that "RIM is acknowledging that a large segment of today’s enterprise mobility users do not have/require wireless e-mail support." VDC reached this conclusion from the launch earlier this year of the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) for Mobile Data System (MDS) Applications which means that RIM has separated wireless e-mail from other applications.
This, VD argues "places RIM in uncharted territory in that its trump card – having the best available wireless e-mail solution, bar none – is no longer relevant."
And it does not see the RIM network architecture as being well suited to content rich mobile applications. "RIM’s model is largely based on continuous/always-on connectivity, which distributes the computer processing away from the client device."
