Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Industry Number Management Services, the company responsible for allocating 13/1300/1800 and Premium SMS (191-199) telephone numbers on behalf of the Australian Communications and Media Authority, has upgraded its web portal using the Ajax web technology.
The portal allows carriers and carriage service providers to apply for and receive number allocations and the upgrade, undertaken by INMS and its IT provider, Paradigm. One, has been undertaken to make the system more secure and easier to use, according to INMS. Demand for 13/1300/1800 numbers continues to grow with an average of 2900 numbers allocated by INMS each month, a 30 percent increase since 2002.
Megan McEwin, general manager of INMS, said: "Customers can now monitor the progress of their porting, allocation and cancellation transactions to see which carriers have updated their switches. The new-look system shows each customer their account balance. Customers can also opt to receive an email alert to help them meet their agreed response times for porting requests."
Martin Cantwell, Director of Paradigm. One said “We have spent considerable time perfecting this new Browser and have made use of the latest web technologies, in particular Ajax, to provide a responsive interface that is uncluttered, yet function-rich and intuitive for our end-users.”
Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications. According to Wikipedia, "The intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the server behind the scenes, so that the entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user makes a change. This is meant to increase the web page's interactivity, speed, and usability.
