Sirius Telecommunications (ASX: SIU) has sold its converged solutions business for $1.2 million to GlobalConnect Australia, a subsidiary of Indian company Avaya GlobalConnect.
Sirius announced that the sale was underway in June, but did not name the buyer. That was revealed last week in a filing by Avaya GlobalConnect to the Mumbai Stock Exchange, on which it is listed.
Sirius said at the time that the business unit was "one of only three tier one Avaya partners in Australia delivering enterprise level communications systems to corporate and government clients." It said the decision to sell the business had been taken because: "The growing adoption of Avaya VoIP technology by Australian business necessitates substantial capital investment in this division of Sirius and requires the financial backing of a large company," and added: "The interested party has stated that the two key reasons for acquisition are the blue chip client base and the telephony skills of the [unit's] staff."
Avaya GlobalConnect said that, as a result of the deal it would make a further investment "not exceeding Rs 7.50 crores" in GlobalConnect Australia. This is $A2.2 million so if the full amount was provided it would give GlobalConnect substantial funds in addition to the purchase price to build up its acquistion.
GlobalConnect Australia claims to be the largest Avaya business partner in Asia Pacific and "Avaya's largest service provider to its customers"
Sirius said it would use the funds raised to "provide working capital to enable the expansion of the Phoneware business with its recently launched VoIP ready and telecommunications expense management product, VXT. VXT is the 'next generation' software to the company's CADS 'call accounting' software."
CADS allows measurement of internal department phone bills for segmental reporting and the VXT software can assess a company's readiness for VoIP and monitor, alert, and report in real time on a VoIP network.
Sirius said it would retain its managed services division and "develop new services that compliment its high margin Phoneware business and build upon the extensive Phoneware client base."
Avaya GlobalConnect claims to be "a leading enterprise converged communication solutions provider in India [with] a comprehensive suite of converged solutions, contact centre solutions and customer services." It claims to be the market leader in contact centre solutions with over 60 percent market share and to be India's leading telephony and video communication solutions provider. Avaya, through two separate subsidiaries - Avaya Mauritius and Avaya International - holds a majority share.
