Australia’s national science agency and research and development organisation, CSIRO, has selected an end-to-end FDR InfiniBand solution from Mellanox Technologies for its new accelerated cluster.

The CSIRO chose Mellanox’s robust, high-speed interconnect solution, including SwitchX SX6025 switches, ConnectX-3 adapters, Unified Fabric Manager and cables , due to its scalability, low power consumption, and high-efficiency data handling that utilises the latest GPUDirect and CORE-Direct acceleration technologies.

“With industry server upgrades such as the new Intel architecture, it was apparent that we needed to upgrade our interconnect solution for better performance, scalability and return on investment,” Brian Davis, ASC Cluster Services Manager at CSIRO said. “Mellanox FDR InfiniBand, GPUDirect and CORE-Direct acceleration technologies provided the solution we needed. This technology helps to ensure our users will have a high performance level for their research and development.”

According to Mellanox vice president of worldwide sales, Marc Sultzbaugh, Mellanox was providing the CSIRO with the “fastest InfiniBand technology and capabilities of PCI-Express 3.0 to enable the highest productivity of the new compute intensive cluster.”

The new CSIRO HPC Cluster was awarded to XENON Systems, the local Mellanox’s Australian partner who specialises in the deployment of high performance computing solutions to Australian and New Zealand research organisations.
