Riverbed buys rival Expand's IP and assets

IT Industry - Deals

Riverbed Technology purchased the intellectual property and other assets of Israel based rival WAN optimisation company Expand Networks, which is in liquidation.

Expand claims to be "the largest supplier of WAN Optimisation products to US government and military agencies (greater than 10,000 units) and also has the most units deployed at a single corporate location, (4,500)."

Riverbed said it planned to make available for purchase new technical support offerings for Expand products, and that it expects to work with former Expand customers to explore promotional upgrade opportunities. It did not purchase the corporate entity of Expand Networks and has not assumed any of Expand's liabilities, obligations or contracts.

Israel's Globe Business Arena news service reported in October that Expand had been placed into receivership at the behest of major lender Plenus Venture Lending Fund, which it said was owed $US10m that was two years overdue.
