Telcoinabox becomes NBN reseller & launches cloud based IP telephony

IT Industry - Deals

Telecommunications wholesaler and aggregator Telcoinabox has signed a wholesale agreement with NBN Co and says it will launch NBN Co services to its 100 service provider customers in the first quarter of 2012. It has also launched its hosted IP telephony service, several months behind schedule.

Network testing of its NBN service is planned to commence in January 2012 with an expected product release for April next year. Telcoinabox CEO Paul Line said: "Many of our service providers are in regional areas covered by the latest NBN Co rollout plans and it's critical that they are ready to connect their customers when the network goes live in their area."

Telcoinabox announced also that it had launched this month its first cloud-based, hosted voice product, branded MyPBX and targeted at the SME market.

The company said it had "signed a deal with…VoIP provider, Engin in January this year to gain wholesale access to its BroadSoft platform and, since then, has been working on product development." It added: "The product will initially be offered over Telcoinabox's existing ADSL2+ or SHDSL access products but will be relatively easy to migrate to NBN access as it becomes available."

There appears to have been some slippage in the company's timetable. When it announced the deal, Telcoinabox said: "The white-label products will be available to all of Telcoinabox's 110 service providers nationally by April 2011." Also, the BroadSoft platform on which Engin's services are based is operated by IPSystems.

Line said MyPBX represented a logical next step into 'next generation' products for Telcoinabox. "Traditional voice is where we first built our business so it makes sense for our first cloud-based product to be a voice application."

He claimed: "The SME market hasn't really adopted this technology with the vigour of larger enterprise clients. Many current VoIP providers focus heavily on cost-savings but, while these can be significant, we feel there is an opportunity to educate smaller business operators on the added flexibility, mobility, scalability and efficiency benefits that a fully hosted solution can offer."
