MediaRing gives up on Pacific Internet

IT Industry - Deals

MediaRing has finally thrown in the towel on its long running attempt to take over Asian regional ISP Pacific Internet.
Its increased offer of $US9.50 per share expired on 10 July without it reaching its target of 50 percent acceptance (including shares it already owns). CEO Khaw Kheng Joo said the company would continue "to actively evaluate a variety of M&A opportunities to further expand our business and build value for MediaRing shareholders." The company is still "examining all options and opportunities" in relation to its 4.8 percent stake in Pacific Internet.

Mr Phey Teck-Moh, president & CEO of PacNet, said the outcome represented an endorsement of PacNet's strategic plan. "The management team and I will continue to be committed to execute our strategic business plan. We see excellent potential for PacNet to succeed in a fast-changing info-communications technology landscape within the region. By strengthening our core competencies and capitalising on the growing importance of various Internet based disruptive technologies, we have the capability to transform PacNet into an IP-based communications and solutions provider."
