Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

$2m Frontline deal with maritime museum

IT Industry - Deals

Australian-based IT vendor, Frontline Systems has been selected by Sydney's Australian National Maritime Museum to lead the museum's ICT Infrastructure upgrade project.

The $2 million solutions contract involves one of the most significant ICT ventures that the museum has ever undertaken, also representing one of the largest financial investments the museum has made in ICT infrastructure.

Frontline will deliver a new switched network infrastructure, which is based on Cisco technology, installing WiFi throughout most of the museum precinct, a complete videoconferencing solution with Polycom, which is integrated into Microsoft's Lync 2010 Unified Communications platform, and using Microsoft technologies. It will also involve a complete overhaul of all server and desktop infrastructure software from the desktop to the data centre and a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solution implemented, amongst numerous other infrastructure component upgrades.

Frontline's general manager of professional services, Michael Chanter said Frontline will be part of a consortium of key business partners to deliver the project and provide the museum with the 'greatest breadth and depth of specialised technology expertise.'

Chanter said the consortia of Allcom Networks, Antares Solutions, Power Cloud Solutions and the Artisan Group Australia, will combine with Frontline to deliver a complete, highly integrated solution for their new ICT operating environment, bringing together strategic software, hardware and networking technology vendors - Microsoft, HP, Cisco, Polycom, and Quest Software (vWorkspace). The upgrade will address the museum's 'stated needs for today and lay the foundation for the next decade and beyond assisting  ANMM in delivering its charter.'

According to Chanter, the project is a milestone win for Frontline Systems on a number of fronts. 'It is our largest single professional services engagement, and the win against stiff competition demonstrates our maturity as a credible tier one system integrator. It also underlines our continued investment to developing our Microsoft Infrastructure practice. We very much look forward to delivering a successful project and business outcome for the museum.'

The museum's head of information services, Karen Holt, said the upgrade of the museum's ICT systems will enable it to deliver on a number of its core business goals, including 'effectively providing greater outreach for our programs especially educational, and access for the general public to our collection and the information held internally, as well having a mobile and connected workforce.'

Microsoft Australia partner director, George Stavrakakis, said the deal demonstrated Frontline's ability to integrate the key Microsoft value propositions for on-premise and cloud deployments, and the solution deployed into the museum would be 'best of breed in terms of both technology and customer value.'
