Following eBay's disposal of Skype in 2009, the world was wondering who might be the next owner.  Should we wonder no more?

Over the past few weeks, as Skype's IPO has moved to finalisation, the IT community has wondered more and more about which company might seek to bypass the process.

Strong suggestions of contact by Facebook and Google have held sway over the collective consciousness with an announcement by either expected at any moment.

However in the past couple of days, and seemingly
confirmed in the past couple of hours, Microsoft has emerged as a very likely owner of the VoIP service.

Should this be true, a major upheaval in the status quo will happen, propelling Microsoft deep into Web 2.0
