Debney Park Secondary College students now have the world at their fingertips, with a new $50,000 Connected Classroom donated by Dell.

The Connected Classroom features touch screen computers, digital document cameras, wireless projectors, an interactive whiteboard and videoconferencing facilities connecting students with other teachers and students from around Victoria and the world.

Victorian Education Minister Martin Dixon said eLearning was an integral part of today's curriculum as it equipped students with the skills to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

"The benefits of the exposure students acquire in this practical environment extend far beyond what students do and learn in the classroom," Mr Dixon said.

"By harnessing this technology in everyday learning, Debney Park students are on the front-foot when it comes to moving on to further study or the world of work.

"The Connected Classroom encourages students to be independent thinkers, more confident and versatile communicators, and better navigators when it comes to seeking and sorting information.

"And this ultimately benefits us all - because to compete globally, we need our workforce of tomorrow to be on the cutting-edge of modern technology today."

Mr Dixon thanked Dell for their generous contribution making the Connected Classroom a reality.

"The partnership between Dell and Debney Park is just another wonderful example of government schools and businesses working together to improve the learning opportunities for young people in this state," Mr Dixon said.

Debney Park Secondary College Principal Alan Davis said the new Connected Classroom would give his students greater access to new technology and inspire innovative teaching and learning practices.

"I think it's marvellous that Dell is supporting young people in the community," Mr Davis said.
