Fed Square saves time and money with 10Gbps network upgrade

IT Industry - Deals

New networking equipment from Juniper is saving time and money at melbourne's Federation Square.

A network upgrade at Melbourne's Federation Square has skipped a generation by going straight from 100Mbps to 10Gbps, bypassing Gigabit Ethernet.

The upgrade involved a switch to an all-Juniper environment. While it better than halves the time needed to transfer large files - important for the multimedia applications at the site - the new equipment has dramatically reduced the time needed to manage the network.

"Previously to update the infrastructure would mean logging into multiple devices separately," said Rory Murphy IT manager at Fed Square, the state government owned company that manages the site. "By having a central point for managing the entire infrastructure, the time saved is half a day a week."

All told, the new gear has halved operational costs as well as increasing network availability.
