What big teeth you have, Grandmother: Wolfram gobbles up MathCore

Mathematical software specialist Wolfram Research has acquired MathCore Engineering.

The acquisition of Sweden-based MathCore Engineering by Wolfram Research is part of the latter's plan to extend itself into engineering and related fields.

While MathCore's existing products including MathModelica will continue to be sold and developed, its technologies will be merged into Wolfram's.

"MathCore has been developing its technology for over a decade, and connecting it to Wolfram Research's Mathematica system," said Roger Germundsson, director of research and development at Wolfram. "We are excited to be able to bring the team from MathCore into Wolfram Research to work on incorporating their technology into our product family."

Mr added "MathModelica is fundamentally an equation-based modelling paradigm. And together with the extensive symbolic computating capabilities in Mathematica, we will be able to take this modelling and analysis approach to a whole new level, including performance, scale, or high-level automated analysis."

MathCore's product line also includes MathCode C++ and Fortran code generators, and the company provides technical consulting services to engineering companies such as Rolls-Royce, Siemens, and Scania.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
