NEXTDC has signed its first customer for its Melbourne data centre.

Harbour MSP has signed up for 600 square metres of space at NEXTDC's Melbourne data centre, with expansion to 1000 square metres within two years.

At this stage the deal is at the 'heads of terms' stage, with a definitive contract to be signed within 60 days.

"Harbour MSP is committed to delivering the best hosting solution to our clients and our selection of NEXTDC's purpose-built facility in Melbourne will allow us to deliver just that," said Andrew Hardy, commercial director of Harbour MSP.

"We have been able to secure our dedicated 1000 square metre data hall built to Tier 3 standards along with ancillary operational and office space within the NEXTDC facility providing an ideal environment to service our Victorian clients," Mr Hardy added.

Harbour MSP intends to use the facility to offer services including co-location, 24/7 infrastructure monitoring, management, security, networking, private cloud deployment and disaster recovery.
