The Royal Darwin Hospital and the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre in the Northern Territory has selected an emergency notification solution from Amcom Software for use when contacting staff in an emergency.
The e.Notify emergency notification solution from Amcom will be used in the 363-bed Darwin hospital and trauma response centre to quickly contact the right staff members on the right communications devices for any situation requiring immediate attention or mobilisation.
The hospital is phasing out an ageing communication system and the general manager, Royal Darwin Hospital and the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, Liz Stackhouse, said the hospital looked to Amcom for a modern approach to emergency notification.
'Our selection of e.Notify is perfectly aligned with our overall mission of providing excellent patient care and greater efficiency. We continually see the need for advanced notifications among our staff, whether for patient care, or weather emergencies such as cyclones and fires, or for disaster response. The Amcom Software solution will greatly help our efforts to provide well-coordinated care in a shortened timeframe.'
With e.Notify, the hospital will notify personnel of their respective duties across a wide range of events including code calls, weather alerts, fire drills and staffing shortages, and the system will also track message responses, as well as any escalations initiated by personnel who are unavailable.
According to John Jordan, general manager - Asia Pacific, Amcom Software, there has been increasing demand in Australia for emergency notification solutions as hospitals 'strive to connect highly mobile workforces quickly and effectively when the situation demands.'
The Royal Darwin Hospital has more than 1,700 staff and, as well as providing a broad range of services in all speciality areas to the Darwin urban population, it serves as a referral centre to the Top End of the Northern Territory, Western Australia and the South-East Asia region.
