Logica secures outsourcing contract extension

IT Industry - Deals

New South Wales state-owned utility company, Eraring Energy, has renewed its IT services outsourcing contract with Logica for a further three years.

Logica, which has provided consulting and IT services to Eraring Energy since 2002, will continue to provide end-to-end support for the energy generation company's complete IT environment, including service desk, infrastructure, network, application, enterprise resource planning, and database services, all underpinned by Logica's ITIL aligned service delivery model.

Eraring Energy's manager information technology and telecommunications, Mark Edwards said 'Logica's experience in the Energy and Utilities market is evident, as demonstrated by their deep knowledge of our business and industry requirements.  The team has not only brought a complete understanding of our front and back office processes, but has integrated themselves into our own team to evaluate our specific needs for innovative technologies. Logica has proved to be a reliable partner in a time of significant change for the NSW energy sector.'

Edwards said Logica had helped Eraring improve business practices and reduce operation costs, whilst renewing its IT infrastructure to prepare the business for new challenges. 'For example, Logica has significantly enhanced a bespoke trading application to allow Eraring Energy to participate in the National Energy Market, a significant source of revenue. Industry regulation means participants in the scheme must have the capability to trade every five minutes, 24 hours a day. Logica has continued to provide the reliability and expertise to support Eraring Energy to ensure it meets all regulatory requirements.'

According to Logica, other significant projects include virtualisation of Eraring's IT infrastructure with VMware, which the IT services firm says has improved data recovery and accelerated testing, as well as drastically reducing space and hardware requirements for the energy company.

Logica CEO Asia Pacific, Colin Holgate Logica, said 'Logica has the strength and experience in managed services that allows us to create value for our clients by understanding their needs intimately. We offer our clients deep industry expertise plus cost effective and low risk management of their IT infrastructure, providing them with advice and knowledge from both local and global sources.'
