Vocus scores $NZ11.3m international capacity deal from Vodafone NZ

IT Industry - Deals

Vodafone New Zealand has awarded recently listed Australian wholesale telecommunications services provider Vocus Communications a $NZ11.3m contract to provide all its international data capacity of the next several years.

Unlike its Australian counterpart, Vodafone NZ is also a major provider of fixed telephony and broadband services.

Vocus CEO, James Spenceley, told iTWire that the deal would make Vodafone NZ Vocus' largest customer. He said the contract price covered Vodafone's initial capacity requirements and its projected growth over the life of the contract, but could increase if Vodafone's requirements exceeded those forecasts. He declined to reveal the length of the contract.

Vodafone NZ will transition to using Vocus progressively over the next several months as current contracts expire.

Vocus already handles some of Vodafone's international capacity requirements and Spenceley said: "[For Vodafone] to award 100 percent of their international capacity to a single provider demonstrates Vocus' track record of high performance, high availability, scalability and uncompromising customer service in the supply of wholesale telecommunications services."
