Webroot acquires BrightCloud

Internet security specialist Webroot has acquired content classification provider BrightCloud.


The acquisition of BrightCloud will allow Webroot to strengthen its security as a service offerings.

"BrightCloud brings to Webroot a set of Web filtering capabilities that are world-class and upon which we will build significant new capabilities," said Webroot CDO Dick Williams.

"BrightCloud's technology and team will be great assets to Webroot as we establish ourselves as the best company in the world at delivering security as a service," be added.

Webroot's services will be strengthened by the addition of BrightCloud's data on more than 200 million URLs and IP addresses to deliver classification and reputation information.

"The BrightCloud technology will significantly enhance the capabilities of our local data centres in Sydney and Singapore, enhancing protection and delivering significant value for hundreds of customers using Webroot® Web Security Service," said Charles Heunemann, Webroot's Asia Pacific managing director.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
