Storage win for IBM and Southern Cross at Deakin University

IT Industry - Deals

IBM 2009 Victorian reseller of the year Southern Cross Computer Systems has recently implemented an IBM XIV storage solution for Deakin University.

Deakin was running out of storage space. It wanted an easy to manage and expandable system, and selected the IBM XIV Storage System, to be deployed by Southern Cross.

"Southern Cross has been a trusted partner of Deakin for some time, providing the technologies for our desktop and server environments. The IBM storage experts - who themselves are extremely competent and a great resource - couldn't recommend Southern Cross highly enough," said Deakin's Craig Warren.

"The IBM XIV Storage System itself is a great fit for Deakin because it's so simple to implement and configure, and yet still performs like an enterprise level solution. Our technology guys are ecstatic about it."

The installation has doubled Deakin's storage capacity from 100TB to 200TB, with room for another 120TB. Other benefits include increasing disaster recovery backup capacity from 10% to 90% of applications, and a 20% increase in general storage array performance.
