BMC clocks up $US100M in 'cloud foundation' software sales

IT Industry - Deals

BMC claims its aggregate sales of $US100 million of cloud-related software is an industry first.

BMC Software claims to have notched up a total of $US100 million in sales that it categorises as "cloud foundation" deals involving tightly integrated service management and datacenter automation solutions as prerequisites for cloud services implementation.

"Unlike other software companies who see cloud computing as a future 'revenue catalyst,' we are seeing the dramatic acceleration of an already successful business driver," said Kia Behnia, BMC's chief technology officer, observed that cloud-related sales are already bringing in revenue, while senior vice president for worldwide sales and services John McMahon said cloud computing was having a bigger impact on revenue than any previous trend.

"Customers understand that a unified management platform is foundational to the successful deployment of virtualisation, cloud and SaaS," said McMahon. "They are making the appropriate investments now to ensure that they can reap all the value that cloud promises to deliver. A lot of them are choosing BMC," he added.

Company officials claim that BMC has won 25 large proof-of-concept and technical design shoot-outs for virtualisation and cloud management at some of the largest enterprises in the world; has been selected by five of the top 20 telecoms companies as their standard platform for virtualisation and cloud management; and has become the standard at two of the top five systems integrators and one of the top three global software companies.
