Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
ICT services provider, Dimension Data, has won a deal with integrated engineering provider Thiess. The contract worth $2.65 million dollars over three years is to provide equipment, managed and professional services to upgrade Thiess' massive JD Edwards production environment.
Located in Brisbane, Thiess’ data centre is built on Sun Microsystems
infrastructure and is one of the largest JD Edwards implementations in
Australia. The site operates Thiess’ business systems, including its
JD Edwards enterprise resource planning (ERP) system which manages the
company’s $3 billion annual turnover.
Thiess required an upgrade of its Sun JD Edwards production environment
with expected growth over the next four years affecting the company’s
production, training and backup capacity. An initial services
engagement with Sun's consolidation partner, Dimension Data, presented
Thiess with a roadmap for its future data centre and storage
requirements taking into account specific Thiess business concerns.
The winning technology solution presented by Dimension Data combines a
complete Sun solution, including servers, software, storage and
support. The current Sun JD Edwards environment will be upgraded to a
Sun Fire E6900 server powered by Sun's UltraSPARC IV processor, and
running on Solaris. The data storage platform will be updated with Sun
StorageTek 9985 storage arrays and Sun StorageTek L500 modular tape
library.
In addition, Thiess’ processing platform for disaster recovery will be
upgraded with Sun Fire E4900 server technology to provide additional
processing capacity.
"A Sun accredited consolidation partner, Dimension Data understood
Thiess’ requirements and were able to quickly recommend the most time
and cost effective solution," said Michael May, director partner sales,
Sun Microsystems ANZ.
“We worked collaboratively with Sun, who provided great assistance
during the design phase of the engagement with Thiess, enabling our
technical team to produce a compelling solution within very tight
timeframes,” said Ronnie Altit, national business manager, Data Centres
and Storage, Dimension Data.
“Dimension Data was also able to combine a number of maintenance and
support contracts incorporating multiple vendors, simplifying contract
management and synchronisation for Thiess. By entrusting Dimension Data
with the entire support role, Thiess can be confident of 24/7 uptime.
Also, the support contract simplifies Thiess’ IT maintenance, allowing
for Dimension Data to identify any areas that require technology
upgrades or improvements.”
