HP completes 3Com acquisition

IT Industry - Deals

HP has completed its $US2.7 billion acquisition of 3Com.

Last November, HP launched a $US2.7 billion cash bid for network hardware manufacturer 3Com.

The acquisition was completed this week.

HP plans to integrate 3Com's product lineup with its own ProCurve family. HP officials said this means "customers will be able to simplify their networks, deploy an edge-to-core network fabric for the enterprise and improve IT service delivery capabilities."

Details of how the ProCurve and 3Com product lines will be merged have yet to be provided.

The deal will also bolster HP's security capability with the addition of 3Com's TippingPoint operation. TippingPoint provides intrusion detection systems among and other products and services, and also sponsors the annual Pwn2Own hacking contest as part of its Zero Day Initiative to encourage the responsible disclosure of security flaws and vulnerabilities.
