Australian communications systems distributor Aria Technologies has expanded into South Africa by acquiring the exclusive distribution rights to LG-Nortel products from Ericsson.
Aria Technologies already distributes LG-Nortel products in Australia and claims to be the largest LG-Nortel distributor outside Korea. It will deliver LG-Nortel's telephony products throughout South Africa and a large part of Sub-Saharan Africa including Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique and Botswana.
"Based on our strong performance in Australia, LG-Nortel invited us to consider extending our presence to South Africa," said Rob Pierce, general manager, Aria Technologies.
The company says it is working closely with Telkom, Africa's largest telecommunications network provider, to finalise distributor and supplier agreements and aims to grow LG-Nortel's share of the 0-500 port market to 75 percent.
According to Pierce, "Not only is the South African market and culture very similar to ours, there are a lot of parallels in terms of telecommunications infrastructure and network standards. There is solid market demand for the solutions that we offer too'¦Our successful, long-term partnership with Telstra has given us a great opportunity to translate all of those skill sets into working with Telkom in South Africa."
Aria Technologies supplies both LG-Nortel and ShoreTel products to end customers under the Telstra Business Programme and Pierce told iTWire some time ago that LG-Nortel product accounted for more than 50 percent of sales through the programme, whch embraces a number of competing products.
Aria has just launched in Australia the LG-Nortel W-SOHO telephone system, a DECT based product for small businesses that eliminates all physical cables except AC power. It will be supplying this product and its full LG-Nortel portfolio - initially through Telkom and later through local resellers throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
