OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
TechnologyOne has been chosen as the sole software vendor to be included in the New South Wales Government’s new ‘Sustainability Tool Selector: A Guide for Local Government’, which was launched yesterday to a workshop of around 100 NSW councillors and senior managers.
The Urban Sustainability Support Alliance (USSA) – a partnership involving state, local government and environmental organisations - commissioned the guide from the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Executive chairman of Technology One, Adrian Di Marco, said today that Technology One Performance Planning is one of ten tools identified in the guide that “can help council staff with evaluation, decision-making, developing performance indicators and tracking progress towards sustainability.
“The guide is designed to save time and cut confusion about the many different tools available, and uses case studies to show how the tools have been used in practice for environmental, social, and economic and governance outcomes.
According to Di Marco, managing risk and sustainability practices has become a key aspect of performance management for organisations committed to delivering results to their internal and external stakeholders, and he said the performance planning solution was already used by more than 20 NSW councils to help them implement strategic plans.
“Councils can use the software to guide them through the strategic planning process, such as setting key performance indicators and linking outcomes to employee roles, budgets and other resources. Once this is all documented, it can be monitored using the solution’s intuitive ‘traffic light’ indicators (red-amber-green), which show if a project is achieving its goals.
Di Marco said alerts can be sent to employees to complete tasks and reports can be “instantly produced, managers can drill down for further information if required and the software integrates with other systems such finance or Microsoft Office tools.”
Di Marco also said that TechnologyOne has designed its Performance Planning to be compatible with the international standard for sustainability reporting developed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) -another tool in the guide - but it can “easily accommodate other frameworks.”
Tools were chosen for the guide using set criteria including being up to date and ready for use without much adaptation. Support with maintaining or upgrading tools was also necessary. Other tools include the Australian business excellence framework and sustainable choice - a free sustainable procurement program for NSW councils.
