Acer, Intel & PBL in multimillion dollar venture

IT Industry - Deals

Acer Computer Australia, with the support of Intel, has signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with local publishing giant PBL, which will see the Sydney SuperDome re-branded as Acer Arena. The entertainment centre will take on its new identity from 12 May 2006.

Plans are in place to deliver on-demand, internet-delivered digital entertainment direct to people's homes.

Acer intends to use the sponsorship as an important brand building opportunity. Within the venue, Acer and Intel will share an area in the foyer, where visitors can touch and feel the latest digital, multimedia entertainment products from the companies.

Charles Chung, managing director, Acer Oceanic Region said, "Digital technology supports our lifestyles in the home, at work and in the live performance arena. Through every Acer Arena experience, patrons can see the truly amazing and enjoyable experience that technology has to offer.

"Acer is already on track to being the number one PC vendor in 2007 and is proud to fuel this world-class entertainment venue, right here in Australia."

Intel will use the Arena sponsorship to promote its newly released Viiv technology platform to support high-definition entertainment including online content, DVDs, games and music.

"This sponsorship enables us to excite consumers about technology and entertainment - two areas that are intertwined," said Kate Burleigh, national marketing manager ANZ, Intel. "We want patrons to touch and see the truly amazing experiences that Acer products based-on Intel Viiv technology can offer in a setting where they are looking to be entertained."

David Humphreys, CEO of Sydney SuperDome said, "The Acer and Intel sponsorship enables us to deliver a greatly enhanced entertainment experience for patrons through better services, facilities and an increased profile for attracting the world's most exciting headline acts.

"One of our plans through this sponsorship is to deliver live and pre-packaged entertainment from the Acer Arena directly to people's homes, thereby delivering premium content to the consumer. This is a first for our industry and something that we are proud to be leading."
